Fátima

On May 13, 1917 a radiant Apparition of the Virgin Mary appeared to three peasant children - Jacinta, Lucia and Francisco - and delivered a prophecy that would change the catholic world. The Sanctuary of Fátima became one of of the most famous in the world, where great pilgrimages numbering thousands of believers take place on the 13th of every month, but specially on May 13 and October 13, the dates of the first and last apparitions. On May 13, 2000 Jacinta and Francisco were beatified by Pope John Paul II, attesting the church's official recognition of their holiness whilst the process of beatification of Sister Lucia has been exceptionally allowed to be initiated only three years after her death, against the five-year waiting period established by the canonical norms. The magnificence and natural beauty of the Shrine is perfectly framed and highlighted by its Basilica and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
